Hope After Heart Failure book cover by Greg Traver
Greg Traver intubated in the ICU during his heart failure crisis

Written From Experience

That's me on the left. It was 2017, I had just survived heart failure after my second widow-maker heart attack and would lay there intubated for three weeks before regaining consciousness.

Heart failure is not just a medical event. It is a life-altering experience that touches every part of who you are. Hope After Heart Failure was written for everyone who has lived through it — and everyone who loves them.

In this book, Traver opens the door to the world beyond the Emergency Department — to the physical, emotional, and spiritual struggle that follows when the machines go quiet and the doctors step away. He writes with the authority of someone who has lived what medicine can't explain. "Doctors can do great things," he says, "but they can't tell you how to live with what comes after."

Honest, compassionate, and deeply human, Hope After Heart Failure is the book Greg wished he had when his own journey began — a framework on which to accelerate recovery, and a companion for the entire journey, from diagnosis to living whole again.

“You are not merely regaining focus — you are awakening vision. The ability to see not only life, but eternity, more clearly than before.” — From Chapter 8: Clarity Awakens

1Chapter

Emerging from Fear

Learning to Breathe Again After the Storm

The first breath after survival is both miraculous and terrifying. This chapter meets the fear that lingers once the monitors go quiet — the racing questions, the hyper-vigilance over every flutter — and shows how faith doesn't erase fear but transforms it, teaching you to breathe again one prayer at a time.

2Chapter

Renewing Strength

Finding Life in Each Small Victory

Fatigue can weigh on the body like an anchor while the mind aches remembering what once came easily. This chapter reframes recovery as a series of small victories, where each slow step and quiet breath of perseverance becomes an act of strength — and an invitation for God's power to meet you in your weakness.

3Chapter

Awakening the Heart

Finding Light When the Spirit Feels Silent

After the crisis quiets and the appointments slow, a subtler ache emerges — joy feels distant, emotions flat, laughter artificial. This chapter honors the numbness that follows survival and gently reawakens the spirit, trusting that God waits patiently in the silence until light returns.

4Chapter

Rediscovering Self

Finding Purpose Beyond the Pain

"Who am I now?" is the question illness leaves behind when familiar roles and routines loosen their hold. This chapter helps you rebuild identity beyond the diagnosis, discovering a purpose that no longer depends on what you do, but on who you are becoming.

5Chapter

Reconnecting the Heart

Healing Relationships and Rediscovering Connection

Heart failure shakes not only the body but the structure of every relationship around it. This chapter is about learning to reconnect — with others, with patience, and with yourself — embracing healing as something that flourishes through relationship rather than in isolation.

6Chapter

Trusting the Body Again

Finding Courage to Move Forward in Faith

When the body fails, trust shatters quietly, and every sensation that once meant strength can feel like danger. This chapter explores how to rebuild trust in your own body through faith, patience, and partnership with God's healing hands — learning that recovery is not only medical, but spiritual.

7Chapter

Harmony in Healing

Trusting God's Guidance through Treatment and Medication

Recovery is a symphony of grace, rest, and resilience. This chapter eases the tension many believers feel between medicine and faith, showing that the two are allies, not adversaries — and that faithfully stewarding your treatment can itself become a spiritual act of obedience.

8Chapter

Clarity Awakens

When the Mind Heals and the Spirit Sees Anew

Cardiac trauma often brings an unexpected mental fog — lost words, dulled focus, scattered thoughts. This chapter reassures you that clarity returns slowly, like the dawn, as your mind rebuilds new pathways for peace and your spirit learns to see life — and eternity — more clearly than before.

9Chapter

Living Whole Again

Embracing a Heart Made Strong by Grace

Wholeness is not perfection but a new rhythm woven from the lessons of body, mind, and spirit. This chapter celebrates the courage to begin again — moving from merely surviving for survival's sake to living intentionally, letting purpose become a deeper heartbeat.

10Chapter

Living with Light

Embracing Peace, Purpose, and Presence after the Storm

When the storm subsides, light takes on a softer, wiser quality. This closing chapter embraces peace not as the absence of struggle, but as the quiet courage to breathe fully again — awakening each day with gratitude instead of haste, and living with presence.

“Most of all, this book demonstrates that there are no limits to miracles — and that there is Hope After Heart Failure.
